Pencelli, Brecon and the Local Area
Brecon, 4 miles away, is a charming and friendly market town with many interesting places to visit. There is a well-equiped leisure centre, a canalside theatre, a cinema, the Brecknock Museum, a Regimental Museum and cathedral.
Outdoor activities in the area are plentiful with two golf courses, hill walking, cycling, climbing, pony trekking and an activity centre with renowned indoor climbing facilities.
Nearby Llangorse Lake offers sailing, canoeing, boating, fishing, water skiing and wind surfing.
The Taff Trail cycle route from Brecon to Cardiff passes through the village and the Usk Valley Walk crosses our own adjacent fields.
Pentwyn is ideally situated for visits to Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, the Gower Peninsular and the wealth of castles and attractions around Mid Wales.
The canalside “Royal Oak” in Pencelli provides excellent reasonably priced home cooked food and real ales. We recommend phoning in advance to book as places are limited. Tel 01874 665396.
The Sixty-Sixty bus service from Abergavenny to Brecon, Merthyr Tydfill and Cardiff passes through the village.
The nearest shop is at Talybont on Usk (2 miles) where you will also find the post office and 4 pubs/restaurants. The nearest supermarket is in Brecon town (5 miles). Asda, Tesco and Waitrose will deliver to this area.
The nearby Hay-on-Wye is home to the Hay Festival of Literature & Arts, which runs for for ten days from May to June. The festival was described by Bill Clinton in 2001 as "The Woodstock of the mind". For more information visit hayfestival.com.
Another highlight of the local year is the Brecon Jazz Festival. Normally staged in early August, it plays host to a range of jazz musicians who travel from across the world to take part and to many visiting tourists who are attracted by the music, the social scene and the other leisure opportunities on offer in and around the Brecon Beacons. For more information visit breconjazz.org.
